Job Summary
The School Nurse works to promote a healthy school environment. Beyond promoting health and safety for students within the school facility during the school day, they also encourage students to maintain healthy habits and behaviors when they are not in school. The School Nurse is also responsible for identifying both actual and potential health problems, providing case management services, and collaborating with students and families to ensure students respond positively to their environment and develop normally.
The school nurse is a registered professional nurse certified with the Ministry of Health working in the school setting who strengthens and facilitates the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children. The major focus of school nursing services is the prevention of illness and disability, and the early detection and correction of health problems. The school nurse is uniquely qualified in preventive health, health assessment, and referral procedures.
Qualification
• Possession of a current license to practice professional nursing
• A baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required.
Experience
Three years’ experience as a professional registered nurse.

Principal
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide health assessments.
- Obtains a health and developmental history.
- Screens and evaluates findings for deficits in vision, hearing, growth, etc.
- Observes the child for development and health patterns in making a nursing assessment and nursing diagnosis.
- Assists with physical examinations when conducted in the school.
- Develops and implements a health plan.
- Provides ongoing health information to pupils, parents, school personnel and health agencies.
- Checks the students nails monthly.
- Conducts a head lice inspection for students monthly.
- Calls the parents if the student is very sick after evaluation and after coordinated with Discipline Coordinator.
- Keeps a record of all the students visited the clinic.
- Recommends and helps to implement modifications of school programs to meet students’ health needs.
- Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of pupils.
- Maintains, evaluates, and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.
- Plans and implements school health management protocols for the child with chronic health problems, including the administration of medication.
- Recommends provisions for a school environment conducive to learning.
- Provides information on health.
- Provides health information to assist students and families in making health-related decisions.
- Assists in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school unit.
- Keep a record of students’ medical history. A copy of the student medical form should be filled and filed.
- Administration:
i. Is responsible for maintaining and updating cumulative health records.
ii. Helps develop/revise school health policies, procedures and standing orders.
iii. Prepares first aid kits for each building.
iv. Reports regularly in writing to the principal and superintendent on school health activities.
v. Implements the school medication policy and procedure.
vi. Comply with the program of the Ministry of Health with regards to vision Test, Grade (1,3,5,7,9,11) and Growth Monitoring (BMI) from Grade (1-12).
vii. Submit all results to the Ministry Via Email and comply with their deadline.
