Position Summary:
The HYDRA Swimming Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the HYDRA Swimming program. They lead in staffing, curriculum development, competitive planning, finance, communication, and client interactions. Collaborating closely with the HYDRA Sports Program Manager, the ASD Athletics and Activities Office, and ASD coaches, the HYDRA Swimming Head Coach ensures the program’s success. The incumbent will prioritize, promote, and safeguard the welfare of all students and show commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Well-versed and fully supportive of HYDRA Sports Philosophy and Goals.
- Introduce, develop, and maintain the HYDRA Swimming program.
- Develop and lead (when necessary) the development and competitive programs.
- Actively coach at least one group.
- Create and develop season schedules, practice and meet schedules, facility use, and allocate staff to programs.
- Create, develop, and implement curriculum, age-appropriate training programs, clearly articulating pathways for progression and long-term athlete development principles.
- Work alongside the Athletics & Activities Director and ASD School program designated leads to ensure alignment of HYDRA Sports and the ASD Athletic program.
- Administrative duties to include:
- Act as Meet Manager for home events.
- Update and maintain HYDRA Swimming statistics, records, and program data.
- Liaise with outside organizations and teams to facilitate appropriate competitions.
- Oversee and organize meet management duties.
- Communicate with parents and student-athletes through social media, website, and direct emails.
- Oversee and required documentation: paysheets, pay rates, coaching staff credentials, etc.
- Periodic facility and equipment check. Report any safety concerns to the HYDRA Sports Program Manager.
- Professional development responsibilities for HYDRA Swimming staff and School program staff in coordination with the ASD Aquatics Director
- Responsibility for hiring, staffing levels, evaluating, and termination of staff for the HYDRA Swimming program.
- Child protection responsible; Ensure a safe environment for all participants, ensuring adherence to the ASD Child Protection policies. Education about policies and expectations for staff, participants, and parents.
- Oversee registration, set pricing, and make decisions on any exceptional circumstances. Deal with refunds when necessary.
- Liaise with HYDRA Sports Office Coordinator on program registration.
- Review the budget and collaborate on capital expenditures items.
- In collaboration with the HYDRA Sports Program Manager, plan and purchase team equipment and team gear/swag (student-athlete and coach apparel).
- Attend team competitions as required.
- Plan team events – end-of-season celebrations and other activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
- 5 years’ experience as a Swimming head coach/leadership position.
- ASCA Level 3 (or equivalent) Swimming qualification
- Experience working with 5–18-year-olds in development and competitive swim environments.
- Computer literate for both Mac and PC. Able to use coaching software.
- Proficient in the English Language (reading/writing/speaking).
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Demonstrated excellent level of organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and safeguard confidential information.
- High school diploma and/or the equivalent and (2) years relevant experience.
- A degree in related areas is preferred.
- Relevant sport-specific coaching qualifications.
- Relevant sports administration experience.
Desirable skills:
- Prior working experience in an educational environment.
- Read, write, and speak Arabic.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
- Work typically takes place in a normal office plus sports facility environment, requiring:
- Sitting, standing, walking.
- Operating a PC and other office equipment.
- Weekend and evening work will be required.
- Working indoors and outdoors in potentially hot conditions
