THE ROLE

The Clinical Nurse Leader – Pediatrics Emergency (CNL) demonstrates clinical expertise, strong leadership, and collaborative skills in interactions with staff and members of the healthcare team. The CNL supports the Clinical Nurse Manager in leading, precepting, and mentoring the nursing and midwifery staff as clinical experts in a unit/service. The CNL is a key member of the interprofessional team and ensures that standards for nursing and midwifery care are adhered to at the unit/service level while working within an assigned shift. The incumbent is accountable for shift coordination, patient flow, patient experience, and resource allocation. The incumbent demonstrates problem-solving, conflict management, and service recovery skills to serve as a role model and change agent. The CNL is professionally accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Makes day-to-day decisions regarding unit operations that impact safety, quality, and efficiency in the provision of patient care.

Participates in the role of supervisor for assigned employees, contributing to the employee performance appraisal cycle, and objectively assists with action plans arising from appraisals as necessary.

Practices within the DHP Scope of Practice according to licensure within the State of Qatar.

Independently maintain licensure and regulatory requirements (e.g., life support certifications and CPD requirements).

Delivers nursing care to patients and rounds to support the delivery of patient care.

Prioritizes high and low-risk patients based on patient-centered assessment and plan of care.

Provides shift supervision and guidance to staff in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Educator, and clinical nurse facilitator.

Coordinates with Clinical Site Management Team on patient bed assignments.

Demonstrates clinical competency by delivering evidence-based care.

Provides education and is actively involved in the competency management of staff.

Identifies patient care issues and/or ways to improve and positively impact on the quality of care and patient outcomes.

Works with others to affect change and produce positive outcomes through sharing of knowledge and information.

Ensures safe and high-quality patient care during shifts through appropriate and equitable allocation of work based on patient acuity and skill mix.

Leads on identifying safety issues in their area of work, resolving and/or escalating appropriately.

Role models correct the use of IT systems, including confidentiality and data protection.

Demonstrates a high standard of documentation in the patient EMR and acts as a resource for staff.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (4 years)

Diploma in Nursing (3 years after post-high school (12 years)

Registered Nurse

Master’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)

Experience

  • 4+ years of recent clinical nursing experience including 2+ years of leadership /supervisory/charge experience in the specialty area.
  • Pediatrics Emergency Experience is a must.

Licensure

Valid professional nursing license in the country of origin
