The Ideal Candidate Will
- be experienced in environmental/ecological assessment, biodiversity regulation and natural resource management
- have a sound understanding of relevant environmental strategies, standards, legislative obligations and assessment processes, including:
- the Native Vegetation Removal regulations, including application information requirements, assessment processes and the application of exemptions
- Planning and Environment Act 1987 and Victorian planning schemes, and
- Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988.
They will have a proven ability to solve complex issues and problems, work on a wide range of tasks with variable and often tight deadlines while working collaboratively in a team environment. They will demonstrate good influence and negotiation skills and an ability to provide advice to, and build relationships with, a wide variety of stakeholders including industry, consultants, other government agencies and the community.Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary qualification in science or natural resource management is desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of Victoria’s biodiversity and environmental policies and legislation, specifically the Native Vegetation Regulations, Planning and Environment Act 1987 and the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 is mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience in providing high quality specialist technical environmental planning advice and assessing environmental impacts of infrastructure projects is mandatory.
- DELWP accredited Vegetation Quality Assessor (or able to obtain accreditation) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of and experience in threatened species management is desirable.
- A current Victoria Drivers Licence is mandatory.
This is a fixed term role available until 30 June 2023. The location of this position is flexible within the Gippsland region.
